Still Mighty Ground

From the still mighty ground
Oceans meet and create shore:
Sounds that sailors scorn;
Illusions of interruption.

Wakes of time interfere
Creating concepts of motion
Dazzling as fireflies
In a clear jar in a dark room.

From a light as dim as can be seen
Shadow was detected
And substance assumed
an empty grasp in eternity.

Gardens of combinations
Crowd a possible universe
Overflowing cups
On a rimless table.

In one place as another
Minds by measurement rip
Fine curtains of continuance
Where no edge can find grip.

Life as a consequence evolves
Outer cell walls thin,
Exchanging elements with electric speed,
Trapping form in a world of smoke.

Between outside and in
Waits the solid, silent one
Frozen into change
On each side of every wall.

Time as a spectrum widens;
At present space expands;
Galaxies spin on an atom's will;
A true sailor leaves the shore.
