Hints of Space
is a fractal image that has not been manipulated from the original fractal generation. Created with Fractal Explorer Ver. 2.00.

Hints tries to show how, with the minimum amount of information, the human perceptual system conspires with the structure of our brains to present to our mind a comprehensible vision of the outside world. Regardless of what the photons hitting the back of our retinas are telling us.

The visual field is a solid white, a white-out, if you will. Suspended in this white are true squares suggested by black and white graduates. Very little information is contained in Hints. But enough hints of space are there to tickle your mind into constructing its own space for your enjoyment.

The funny thing about this composition is that it completely falls apart if you remove the lone gray square at the top right of the image. It somehow cues the perceptual system that a 3-D situation may be developing before our eyes. (also the very small off-center placement contributes to the visual illusion of substance.)
