Artist's Comments:  
Ecstasy seems to simultaneously extend from and descend into the image plane of the composition. The spiral element in the bottom half of the composition brings the eye in while the three-prong extension in the top half leads the eye out of the image.

The entire shape of the composition is echoed down to the smallest scale.
